Top 6 Infection Horror Movies,

I love zombie movies but another close forerunner to the zombie movie is the infection based plague films. Apocalyptic films about mans destruction based on apocalyptic plagues are very close to the zombie genre in many ways and as such I wanted to take a minute and list what I consider to be some of the Top Infection Horror movies. So here is my 6 Infection based horror movies that I think everyone should see if not once, or in my case a dozen times!

28 Days Later: The source of many arguments as to whether its  a zombie movie or not but any way you cut it its clearly an infection movie. Set 28 days after an apocalyptic outbreak all of England is brought to its knee’s by the rage virus. I am willing to admit that 28 Days Later scared the crap out of me when I first watched it one dark night in my basement and what a treat that was. Although slow moving zombies are clearly creepy a running rage virus infected zombie (?) is far scarier in my books. I have seen this movie no less then 20 times its it really put Danny Boyles on the map for me as a director to watch!

Doomsday: Neil Marshall is the man. Ever since he did Dog Soldiers and Descent he has been high up my list of talented directors to watch and his apocalyptic tale of infection and destruction DOOMSDAY is one of my favourite tales of doom and destruction. Starring Rhona Mitra who is on a quest for a cure in Scotland it features lots of infected, meat eating cannibals and lots of sexy and over the top explosive action. This for me is Mad Max meets 28 Days Later and those are two combos its hard not to love. Its also a bonus that Rhona Mitra struts around in a spandex getup throughout 90% of the film.

28 Weeks Later: I think this is the first list I have ever done where a sequel made it on the same list. In 28 Weeks Later the US Army heads to London to save the Brits and help them rebuild. Of course the war machine is quickly brought to its knee’s as the RAGE virus once again roars its ugly head. A very original sequel that offers alot of new things from the first film 28 Weeks Later is a great sequel that doesn’t just repeat itself but brings even more creepy rage infected insanity to the screen. If you liked 28 Days Later you will definitely like the sequel!  Fox Atomic put out both films and when the horror division of FOX was shuttered I was saddened. At least we will still one day get 28 Months Later and I for one can not wait!

The Crazies Remake: I normally do not like remakes much less remakes that star Timothy Olyphant ( dear goodness me did HITMAN suck ) but I must admit I loved this tale of small town destruction as a government created virus spreads through town turning the town folk into deranged killing machines.

12 Monkeys: 12 Monkeys is in my books one of the best movies that Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis have ever made. Bruce plays the role of future prisoner sent back in time to solve the riddle of a man killing plague and Brad Pitt exemplifies genius as the ‘nuthouse patient’ who is as crazy as a loon and holds the secret to the 12 Monkeys. Brad Pitt for me has not flexed his acting prowess since 12 Monkeys. 12 Monkeys for me stands as one of his greatest films.

Carriers: Chris Pines Carriers is a truly fantastic film. Carriers is very slow and lacks any real fast paced action as it plays out more like a stage play then an end of days movie. Chris Pine’s character and a hodge podge team of survivors attempt to escape a horrible plague that has killed the US population and as they do they face challenges from around them as well as within. A very deep and well written character movie CARRIERS will appeal to those of you who like classic apocalyptic tales like OMEGA Man. A fantastic piece that every fan of infection films should definitely see.
