Topic: pride and prejudice and zombies
has anyone read this? i thought it was well done and very humourous, cleverly combining the original elements of austin, with kick ass zombie action.this type of book seems to be part of a growing sub-genre of zombie novel.

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
as a zombie myself, I found this a fascinating read - I'd never read Austen as a mortal, having perceived it as somewhat girlie (although I WAS of course familiar with the classic story) I have read extensively from the time period (Austen) and am quite familiar with the style - given this twist, I was naturally drawn to this this was def one of my fav books of the past few years - very clever and engaging - highly recommended and highly worthy of a thread of it's own side note: I've been having trouble locating a copy of Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters (damned library)

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
i agree wholeheartedly with your comments sir.i had read pride before but like you found it a bit twee and girly. although,as a zombie slayer i found the character of elizabeth much tougher and more feminist than the original work.i think this is a clever work of great insight, even managing to say new things about the original story. and your right, def deserves a thread of its own. incidentally, you can purchase sense and sensibility and sea monsters from amazon.

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
Meh sounds like a boring read from what you guys are saying - girly. I like books with stratigical plans, effective and possibly inventive ideas. ... That and I can't read anything remotely chick flick-e just send me some titles of good bloodshedding books or ones that were very cool/ scary in your opinion. ;D

Now hold on there guys, the main characters are women and thus would be from their perspective. So doesn't that make it by default, girly?

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
bub too cheap to buy the beauty of this book is the juxtaposing of classical romanticism and graphic violence - any self-respecting zombie fan owes it to themselves to read this book and be dazzled by it

the main character is a woman, but a warrior woman - she is mainly unencumbered by traditional girlie fixations

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
Gahh, but it's also romance! It makes it ultimately less appealing! -.-; What happened to the good days when movies didn't have to involve romance in movies or books?

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
to be fair there is very little romance in it, and quite a bit of gore, so it passes for me.

indeed - just to clarify for non-believers, when bub say "classical romanticism" he mean writing style, not romance per se

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
Hmmm, I miiiiiiiiiiight read it then Might. Possibly. Okay it has zombies that usually is a deal closer for me. You guys better be right about this. Unfortunately I'll have to read it around December because Halloween prep is going to be exhausting and in November I'm writing a 50,000 word novel in only one month. So you've gotten me interested in it - so far.

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
You might also be a bit shocked once I note that I'm also writing a BOOK that is a part of a SEVEN PART SERIES. That sounds horribly insane... oh well ^__^; Actually I haven't read too many zombie books because of the fact that I'm a writer. I usually don't like how many end and get frustrated which causes me to write some of my own but in the end it might help me in the long run to start reading it for ideas in my books. As far as recommendations go - Anything that catches your eye

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
cool, a seven part series.thats a challenge, ive never tried anything so ambitious myself. im a writer too, journalist and short story writer here in edinburgh. i enjoy zombie lit, but to be fair a lot of it is very dissapointing. i enjoyed world war z and i love the walking dead comics.

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
Thanks for the list ZombieSlayer I might go through them around Christmas when My pups are being born - can't watch Tee Vee because I need to be attentive and listen to them constantly. Oh god it's horrible I'm at 35,000 words for my first book and only on chapter 5 it's agonizing. But I did get to add a part where some creatures start ripping each other to shreds and attack my main character. It's getting good :3 Ah, man you must be frustrated being journalist and not being able to write what you want. Or am I wrong? I'm going for graphic designer myself Yeah zombie books do tend to be disappointing because either everyone dies, it's cliche, the zombies are smart or people didn't get them or the characters right. I have yet to read WWZ but I might buy it around Christmas for myself or get a friend to buy me one instead. ^_____^ I REALLY WANT TO READ THAT BOOK! D:

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
it can be kinda frustrating not writing what you want to write, but it allows me to earn a living doing what i like and thus enables me to write what i want in my spare time. lol. wwz is really good, but has a somewhat splintered narrative, collecting tales of various individuals, instead of a traditional linear story.

Re: pride and prejudice and zombies
I'm a proud heartless bastard actually! *Has Ataraxia* I know it would be easy to make decisions due to the ataraxia and general annoyance towards most of the human population. In fact I would probably hop on the Zombiegeddon train and accept it quite quickly. It would be like an adventure but I can shoot things. SWEET! No, I don't have one! Kind of hard when I'm busy off of my butt making 7 books, 1 novel, several photomanipulations, breeding dogs, going to school X__X Not to mention I'm picky Yeah I'd go for the pups anyday they have more intelligence then most boys in my school. lol ;D
