Had a chance to finally checkout Dead Snow this past weekend and overall I was quite impressed but unfortunately it did not live up to its billing as one of the greatest zombie comedies ever made.

Dead Snow had an extremely limited theatrical release through IFC and was dumped onto DVD with little ceremony.. The story follows a group of friends who drive to a cabin in Norway where German troops were slaughtered by locals in 1945. Now the undead zombie Nazis are coming alive to feast. Besides zombies, there's snowmobiles, dark cabins, and well, more zombies!

Overall Dead Snow is a fun zombie comedy that offers a few laughs, lots of carnage and plenty of hommage to the classic horror films including Evil Dead. If Sam Raimi had made a zombie movie instead of Evil Dead this is exactly how I would envision Dead snow turning out to be. That said as original and fun as the film was for some reason I just felt the movie never really hit its full potential despite some truly entertaining scenes including an epic showdown between two of the medical students and a horde of undead zombie nazis! Its funny, witty and dark with plenty of action to impress most zombie fans.

Unfortunately going into the film it was billed as genius and although its a fun zombie movie it lacks the magic of other foreign zombie flicks like Shaun of the Dead and night of the Living Dorks. Overall Dead Snow is a fun romp down zombie lane which offers lots of entertainment but really no rewatch value at all.

Once you have seen it once you are likely not to feel the need to see it again unlike some films like 28 Days later or Shaun of the Dead. If you like me are into the zombie genre and can not get enough then Dead Snow is a must see but if your into maintream zombie films like the Dawn of the Dead remake or Zombieland you may want to give it a pass. Overall a fun movie that I give a 7 out of 10 for intense action, lots of zombies and a few chuckles.
