5 Great Foreign Zombie Movies
What I love most about the zombie genre is the fact that it offers so much for so many different people. One of my favourite parts of the Zombie genre are the comedies but equal parts of my love is for the foreign zombie movies. You are in luck today since this go around I want to take a look at the 5 great Foreign Zombie Comedies that I have seen. As with every list I encourage you to leave comments and feedback so that I can broaden my horizons and checkout more great zombie flicks. So without further ado here are my 5 Great Foreign Zombie Films with trailers:
Night of the Living Dorks: This movie reminds me of idle hands with its style of humor and the fact its a buddy flick about a couple of dead buddies who with the help of their living buddies… get into all kinds of trouble. Philip and his best friends Konrad and Weener are the three biggest losers at Frederich Nietzsche High. But when an inept voodoo ceremony by the local Goth clique leads to a fatal car accident, this trio of über-dorks returns as indestructible zombies with an insatiable appetite for human flesh, wild parties and gym class revenge.
Part romance, part teen story Night of the Living Dorks tells the story of three dorks who get turned into zombies and take on high school, bullies and the challenges of being a teenager. The humor translates well and it is easily one of the funniest foreign zombie films you can see.
Boy Eats Girl: Another story of teen love with a zombie angle ( I think I must have a thing for teen love or something ). Boy Eats Girl is the story of a boy who loves a girl and ends up killing himself only to have is mom bring him back with ancient voodoo. Things go all kinds of wrong when he gets hungry and ‘Boy Eats Girl’. The film is not a laugh out loud type of comedy but its packed full of gore, witty one liners and easily one of the hottest teenage loves in film. Samantha Mumba who plays the ‘Girl’ that leads to this entire zombie affair is smoking hot and one I think we need to see alot more of.
Undead: Undead was directed by the Spierig brothers who recently got tapped to go mainstream and direct Daybreakers. Once again not laugh out loud funny but definitely has its moments of pure genius. Peaceful, rustic Berkeley is a charming fishing community where life is sweet and the people friendly. All that is about to change though as an avalanche of meteorites bombardes the town, bringing an otherworldly infection. The living dead are awakened and the survivors are caught in a nightmare of zombies hungry for human flesh. Entertaining and funny this zombie film has great FX, lots of zombies and really interesting characters. A low budget film its sure to appeal to fans of zombie comedy.
Dead Snow: Dead Snow is not one of the best zombie movies ever made but if you are like me and love classic horror then you will find alot to love about this film. For me it was the Evil Dead of zombie movies. It has all the same elements of classic Raimi. Not laugh out loud funny but dark, gorey and without a doubt packed full of chuckles. Dead Snow tells the story of a group of medical students who go into the mountains for a retreat at a cabin and soon find themselves falling victim to a Nazi zombies.
Fido: Welcome to Willard, a small town lost in the idyllic world of the 50′s, where the sun shines every day, everybody knows their neighbour, and rotting zombies carry the mail. Years ago, the earth passed through a cloud of space dust, causing the dead to rise with an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Terror spread across the land, until a collar was invented that made the zombies docile, even useful. A company was born: ZomCon. Thanks to their patented domestication collar, zombies became gardeners, milkmen, butlers, and even pets. ZomCon would like everyone to believe that they have the world under control – but do they?
As a Canadian it gives me great pleasure to throw a Canadian film on the list and not just as a token. FIDO is a truly unique zombie film about 50’s society only in an alternate verse. FIDO stars Carrie Anne Moss from the MATRIX ( holy crap is she one hot mom.. literally she has like two kids ) and Billy Connolly. Great casting and great writing make this film a fantastic film that is sure to make you chuckle and keep you watching it again and again.
